Workers’ Compensation Resources

Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation – The BWC provides medical and compensation benefits for work-related injuries, diseases and deaths. Claims for on-the-job injuries are processed through the BWC. Access injured worker forms to report an injury or apply for direct deposit of your benefits.

Ohio Industrial Commission – The IC holds hearings and appeals to resolve disputes between injured workers and the BWC, or injured workers and a self-funded employer, regarding workers’ compensation benefits.

Ohio Workers’ Compensation Laws – Find statutes, rules and regulations dealing with worker’s compensation in Ohio, including links to the Ohio Administrative Code, the Ohio Revised Code, and executive orders.

Injured Worker FAQs – Find answers to basic claim questions such as filing and processing and the hearing process; medical questions about physicians, treatment and medical bills; and general compensation questions as well.

OSHA Workers’ Rights – This website managed by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration can help you understand your rights as a worker to a safe and healthful work environment, including your right to file a complaint free from retaliation.

Social Security Disability Resources

Social Security Administration – The SSA is the agency which determines eligibility for benefits from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Online resources to guide you in preparing your application include a disability planner, benefit calculators, and a general disability claims page. When you are ready to apply, you can go here to apply online, and check your application against this application checklist.

SSA Office Locator – Use this resource to find your nearest Social Security office.

Disability FAQs – Can you return to work while getting Social Security disability benefits? What are the eligibility requirements to get Social Security disability benefits? The answers to these questions and many others can be found here.

Ticket to Work – The Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program is a voluntary, free program available to people aged 18 to 64 who are blind or disabled and receiving SSD or SSI. People using this program can explore employment opportunities without automatically losing their benefits.

Your Ticket to Work – This website provides additional information about the Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency program, also simply known as the Ticket program. This federally-funded employment program is designed to provide beneficiaries of Social Security Disability with the tools and opportunities to become economically self-sufficient over time.

Personal Injury Resources

Ohio State Highway Patrol – The OSHP maintains complete crash reports and crash photographs from auto accidents it investigates for five years after the accident. Reports may be purchased online for a small fee.

Ohio Department of Public Safety – Visit the DPS Crash Report System to download extracts of crash data, crash statistics, or traffic crash reports for the past five years.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – The NHTSA is a federal agency established in 1970 to prevent crashes and achieve the highest standards of vehicle safety and highway safety. View general laws and regulations here, or find specific information on air bags, brakes, seat belts, tires, child passenger safety and more.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration – The FMCSA is charged with creating and enforcing safety regulations for trucking in the U.S. in areas such as maximum hours of service for truck drivers, limitations on the size and weight of tractor-trailers, and required routines of maintenance and safety inspections of 18-wheelers. Determining whether the truck driver and trucking company involved in a truck accident were in compliance with federal regulations is an important part of preparing a truck accident claim.

Distraction.gov – This website is a joint effort by NHTSA and the US Department of Transportation to lead the effort to stop texting and cell phone use behind the wheel. Teens, parents, educators and others can get the facts on distracted driving here, research state laws, and learn personal stories about the dangers of distracted driving.
